Cover of the Times of London!
James Hider at the Times of London wrote a piece about Hometown Baghdad today…and they smacked us right on the front cover. They even threw up a picture of Saif and Noor! This is truly an honor. In honor of this honor, here is a ridiculous shot of me holding up the paper.

…I guess I need a haircut, huh?

Well done guys, I was in a rush to catch a train so didn’t manage to get a copy but you’ll be pleased to know that The Times is actually a national newspaper, not just for London. Mike, it must be great to see your efforts and the efforts of all those involved with the project finally getting recognition in the media- The Times is a respected newspaper and BBC Radio 4 is a radio station for the more intelligent listener so well done.
I liked the reference to ‘pot-bellied’ Saif; Adel, did you really learn your English through listening to heavy metal??!

This is what we many of us have been waiting for!
The REAL IRAQ through Iraqis instead of sensationalist Journalists looking for a story!
I get so tired of only seeing one side of Iraq in the news and have waited and waited for something like this!
All the world needs to see this website and learn about Iraq from Iraqis!
All of you are doing a fine job with this.
Isn’t it ironic that something as simple as this webstie could reach and touch the world and accomplish so much !
Thank you for this site and best wishes in all that you do !
I visit the site often and am referring it to friends as well !
One piece of advice tho , Add a chat room for folks from all over the world to come and talk with Iraqis and make friends, pen pals, etc.

That’s a great idea, Scott. What do other people think? Would that be something that you all would be interested in? My only reservation is that if the dialogue happens in a chat room then it will disappear when the people leave and those that come later won’t get to join in. Whereas, with comments, Gunner Sgt can make a comment today, lelly can respond tomorrow, and Nadia can drop by and give her opinion next week. Though I do like the immediacy of real time conversation. Any other opinions?

Hello Iraq ;
Although it may not seem so the world is with you !
Sometimes we all get lost in ideologies, beliefs and differences but we all have one thing in common, the desire to live in peace and safety and to pursue our lives and dreams without fear.
Finally a window has opened into the real Baghdad where we can talk and reach out across the miles to one another and tell the stories of our lives.
These stories is what brings us together because even though we may differ on so many things we all live and experience life in many similar ways. We all laugh, feel pain and care for each other and each others happiness..
This window, hometownbaghdad, has opened that door.
Now we know a few of you and daily visit this site hoping to see more stories about your lives and hoping you are well.
Putting names on the Iraqi people in a site like this brings us together as people and friends.
Adel, Saif, Ausama, Zaid, and all those other Iraqis that follow, you belong to the world now. You are all our brothers and sisters.
Many of us don’t care about the ideologies, beliefs and differences, We do respect them. We mainly want you happy and safe.
Iraq, let go of your fear and let the world in and see the other side of people who care about your country, your people and your lives.
I know I can speak for many when I say all of these things.
IRAQ !
WE CARE ABOUT ALL OF YOU !

No, they are very well shaped, Mike. Teehee.Naturally of course. And the hair’s good.
Scott, I agree, when I first saw this site it was great to feel less threatened by attacks on my consciousness every time I turned on the TV news.
I hardly watch TV anyway.
